Following Depp’s defamation trial against ex-wife Amber Heard, the Pirates of the Caribbean star toured the United Kingdom with Beck in support of their album, titled 18. In June, Depp and Beck released a music video for a single from the album, calling it, “This is a Song for Miss Hedy Lamarr.”

”They had a really tight friendship, they were extremely close, and he got even closer over this past summer when they were touring together,” a source told People. “Johnny is still processing this news. He’s devastated.”
At the time of their 18 album’s release, Depp called Beck a “brother.”
“It’s an extraordinary honor to play and write music with Jeff, one of the true greats and someone I am now privileged enough to call my brother,” Depp said.

Last summer, while announcing their album, Beck told a crowd how much he enjoyed Depp.
“I’m going to take this opportunity and tell you I met this guy five years ago, and we’ve never stopped laughing since,” Beck said at the time. “We actually made an album. I don’t know how it happened. It will be out in July.”
