The never-ending attacks on conservative black Associate Supreme Court Justice Clarence Thomas got another shot this week from a black Georgia lawmaker eager to block a statue to the current court’s longest-serving judge.
“Uncle Tom” is how Democratic Sen. Emanuel Jones referred to Thomas during a state Senate floor speech.

Now, as they often do, allies of Thomas are coming forward to forcefully push back, this time armed with a list of policies to show that it is liberal black politicians who are out of touch with the African American mainstream, not Thomas.
In the same breath that he says he doesn’t know the origin of “Uncle Tom,” he uses it to describe Clarence Thomas for having the audacity to have his own beliefs.
This language has no place in America, and certainly has no place on a Senate floor. pic.twitter.com/21zgyz0Ls9

In a 12-point Twitter thread, biographer and lawyer Mark Paoletta concluded that Thomas “is our greatest justice and our greatest living American. It will be a great day when a statue of Justice Thomas is dedicated in his home state of Georgia.”
3/ On abortion, Justice Thomas has opined for 30 years there is no constitutional right to abortion. Per 2020 Gallup article, from 2001-07, only 24% of black Americans believed abortion should be legal in all circumstances. From 2017-20, only 32% did.

6/ are obligated to support views of their funders. That’s what happened in 1991 when NAACP opposed Justice Thomas’ nomination at request of white labor unions, despite his strong support in black community (in July 1991 USA Today poll, 54% supported, only 17% opposed).

In his list, Paoletta touched on school choice, abortion, affirmative action, and white majority labor unions and how black liberals follow the Left’s path but not that of mainstream black Americans.

8/ More issues?? 69% of black Americans support Voter ID laws. Only 28% of black Americans support Defund the Police.

“On school choice, 81% of black parents support, but NAACP opposes it. Why does NAACP support views more in line with rich white progressives? Perhaps because NAACP receives significant funding from majority white progressive organizations & labor unions,” he wrote in another post.
In an interview, Paoletta expressed frustration with what he sees as decades of smearing of Thomas.

“It’s astonishing that state Sen. Jones and much of black leadership attack Justice Thomas for his views, when most black Americans in fact agree with Thomas. It’s Orwellian,” he told Secrets.
“Thomas is an American hero for remaining true to his hard-earned views and never bowing to the Left’s despicable attacks. He’s our great Justice,” he added Thursday.
