Al Franken launching SiriusXM show, contributing to channel’s special coverage of 2020 elections

Former Minnesota Sen. Al Franken is launching a weekly radio show with SiriusXM and will contribute to the channel’s 2020 election coverage.

Franken’s addition to the SiriusXM team comes about a year and a half after he resigned from the Senate following eight women accusing him of forcibly kissing and inappropriately touching them.

Megan Liberman, SiriusXM’s senior vice president of programming, described Franken as “an important and influential progressive voice, whom many have missed.”

“SiriusXM is the perfect platform for him to reenter the public conversation,” she said in a statement.

The Al Franken Show premieres Saturday and features an interview with comedian Chris Rock. Former Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid and comedian Patton Oswalt are slated for future shows.

The weekly radio show will be an hour long and replay throughout the day, according to SiriusXM.

“When I’m interviewing Harry or former Energy Secretary Ernest Moniz, I’ll be the funny one. When I interview Rock or Patton Oswalt, I’ll be the one who served eight-and-a-half years in the Senate,” Franken said in a statement.

Franken said in July that he regretted caving to pressure to resign amid accusations of sexual misconduct. Some of his former Senate colleagues have also expressed their regrets for demanding his resignation.
