In partnership with SiriusXM Radio, Washington Examiner is proud to bring you “Mainstreet Meets the Beltway” with Salena Zito. Each week Salena brings on guests to discuss current events in the political sphere, as well as small town topics, and wide reaching trends. This week she and her three guests cover midterm elections, gerrymandering, and the state of the Republican Party.
Salena’s first guest, Washington Examiner’s senior political correspondent David Drucker, joins the show to discuss his coverage of the 2018 midterm elections. One of the most pressing issues going into November will surely be how the Brett Kavanaugh nomination will affect voters. There are reports of both sides being motivated by the nomination, either as a victory or a reason to protest.
After Drucker leaves the show, two professors join Salena. First is Tom Nichols of the U.S. Naval War College. Recently, Nichols wrote a piece for the Atlantic, “Why I’m Leaving the Republican Party.” In the current state of things, the professor feels that the GOP has lost sight of its former goals and only cares about raw power. The second professor on “Mainstreet” this week hails from Keystone College. Political science professor Jeff Brauer joins the show to go over what the Pennsylvania Supreme Court ruling on gerrymandering means going forward.
