PETA beat Time in the race to herald global climate change activist Greta Thunberg.
Two days before the magazine named her “Person of the Year,” the animal champions awarded her “Youth Role Model of the Year.”
PETA told us, “Thunberg is no shrinking violet and is known for her frank assessments and her take-no-prisoners approach, things that resonate with PETA.” And, of course, she’s a vegan.
- There were a lot of moments during the Nixon impeachment that had former NBC White House correspondent Tom Brokaw feeling sick, but one almost sent him rushing to the bathroom. Chatting with his old rival Dan Rather on SiriusXM’s Radio Andy, Brokaw said he was at lunch with a friend who told him that President Richard Nixon and chief of staff Bob Haldeman wanted the newsman to be the next White House spokesman. “I almost threw up,” he said, but not for the obvious reason. “It was not a total rejection of who they were or the gravity of the offer. It’s just not what I wanted to do with my life,” he said.
- The struggle to get building approval for the new U.S. Embassy in Jerusalem is over, and the city has given the green light. Officials said construction should begin in a year in the Talpiot neighborhood of west Jerusalem that offers a nice panorama of the Old City.
