Russia said Thursday that the summit meeting between its president Vladimir Putin and President Trump is still on for the weekend, even after Trump said it may not happen.
Russia’s state-owned news agency, Tass, said the meeting is set for Saturday, Dec. 1 at noon just before the G20 meeting in Argentina.
A spokesman for the Kremlin, Dmitry Peskov, said several issues are planned for the talks.
“Issues connected to bilateral relations will come first,” Peskov said. “We should give thought to how to start discussing bilateral relations, strategic security and disarmament, in addition to regional conflicts.”
“At first, as we expect, the presidents will briefly contact, and then the Russian-U.S. talks will take place, which may last for nearly an hour,” he added.
Trump said Tuesday he wasn’t sure the meeting would happen anymore, after Russia seized three Ukrainian ships and held 24 sailors for trial.
“Maybe I won’t have the meeting,” Trump said. “Maybe I wont even have the meeting … I don’t like that aggression. I don’t want that aggression at all.”
On Wednesday, Russia ignored a call from NATO to release those sailors. Instead, courts in Russia-controlled Crimea decided to hold those sailors for two months as they await trial for allegedly crossing into Russian waters.
