‘There’s that’: CNN host left speechless after Democratic senator rants about alleged Trump-Stormy Daniels affair

Sen. Jon Tester left a CNN host speechless after he ranted about President Trump’s Stormy Daniels scandal after Tester was asked about Sen. Mitt Romney’s impeachment vote.

Tester, a Montana Democrat, lauded Romney’s decision to vote against the president on one article of impeachment, making him the first senator in U.S. history to vote to convict a president from the same political party. Tester, 63, claimed Romney’s vote was “guided by God.”

“Mitt Romney is a deeply religious man, and I listened to his speech on the floor yesterday, and he literally, literally, I think, was guided by God,” Tester told CNN Thursday morning. “And he made a decision based on the facts and based on the gravity of the situation, which was a very solemn and a very important decision. I think that he’s probably catching a lot of heat for making the decision, but that’s part of what leadership is about.”

Tester addressed Trump’s criticisms of Romney’s vote and claimed it was the “ultimate of ironies” that the president criticized Romney, given Trump’s scandalous past. The senator said: “I think it’s ironic that the president goes after him, a man who had an affair with a porn star while his wife was pregnant. That’s the ultimate of ironies.”

CNN host Poppy Harlow was clearly caught off guard by Tester’s remarks. She paused for several seconds before responding, “There’s that.”

During the 2016 election, Daniels, an adult film star, claimed that the Trump campaign had paid her “hush money” to keep quiet about an affair the two had in 2006, the year Trump’s youngest son was born. Trump denied that he was aware of the payments made to Daniels by his lawyer, Michael Cohen.

Daniels, whose given name is Stephanie Clifford, also sued Trump for defamation after he called her a “total con.” She lost the defamation lawsuit and was ordered to pay Trump’s legal fees.
