‘Liar’ or ‘back-stabber’: Rudy Giuliani slams John Bolton over book allegations

Rudy Giuliani lashed out at former White House national security adviser John Bolton for claims made about him in a forthcoming book.

During a Fox News appearance on Sunday, the former New York City mayor accused Bolton of betraying him by raising concerns about his Ukraine investigations to government officials.

“He says he went around my back to the secretary of state and complained. Secretary of state says he didn’t, by the way,” Giuliani added. “I don’t know what John is up to. He’s either, he’s either a liar or he’s a back-stabber,” Giuliani said on Sunday Morning Futures.

Leaks from Bolton’s unpublished book made their way into media reports during the Senate impeachment trial as Democrats sought the former national security adviser’s testimony.

In his memoir, Bolton described a White House meeting attended by Giuliani nearly two months before Trump’s July 25 phone call with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, which became the impetus for a House impeachment investigation into Trump’s conduct. At the Oval Office meeting, Trump allegedly directed Bolton to call Zelensky and secure a meeting between the Ukrainian leader and Giuliani to assist with investigations into Ukrainian corruption said to involve Joe Biden and his son Hunter.

Giuliani denied that any such meeting took place.

“I was never in any such a meeting. 1,100% never at any such meeting. I do not know what John is talking about, and I’m very angry at John because John says I was a ‘hand grenade,'” Giuliani said. “At no time during the entire period this was going on, did John Bolton, who I have known for 10 years and considered a friend, did he come up to me and say ‘Rudy, I’m concerned about what you’re doing.'”

Bolton’s political action committee did not immediately return a request for comment.
