Former Secretary of State John Kerry says the appearance of a New York Times op-ed from an anonymous official who’s fighting against President Trump’s agenda should scare everyone, and shows that Trump is the worst president in history.
“It scares the hell out of me,” Kerry said on the “Late Show” Wednesday night. “First of all, there is a reassurance — it means that for James Buchanan, he’s no longer the worst president.”
Kerry said the turmoil in the White House is a “really serious.”
“It’s foreboding in so many different ways because it really means … I mean, you have somebody stealing something off the president’s desk in order to prevent him from making a decision.”
“You have him ordering generals to do something, and within a moment of them being ordered, they turn to their generals and say, ‘We’re not doing that,'” he added.
“What it really means is we don’t have a president,” Kerry concluded. “We have a president who’s there, but he is not capable of doing the job or living up to the responsibilities.”
Kerry argued that Trump’s defenders in Congress are “defending their own power” instead of the Constitution, and he said, “that’s wrong.”
There is some speculation that Kerry will run again for the White House, after trying unsuccessfully in 2004. But he indicated he is unlikely to try again in 2020 by running against Trump.
“I have no plans to run for anything,” he said. “I doubt I’ll run for office ever again.”
