Fox News host Brian Kilmeade apologizes for spreading fake AOC tweet

Fox & Friends host Brian Kilmeade apologized after spreading a quote falsely attributed to Democratic Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez.

Kilmeade tweeted, “I have deleted my earlier tweet regarding Rep. Cortez, I apologize for the error,” on Monday night, hours after he posted a screenshot of a tweet purportedly from the New York congresswoman.

The tweet that had been incorrectly tied to Ocasio-Cortez read, “It’s vital that Governors maintain restrictions on businesses until after the November election because economic recovery will help get Trump re-elected. A few business closures or job losses is a small price to pay to be free from his presidency.#KeepUsClosed.”

The Fox News host’s post had the caption: “Is this what @realDonaldTrump has been saying?”

Ocasio-Cortez dismissed Kilmeade’s apology, saying, “Wish I could say I appreciate the effort, but you didn’t even get my name right.”

Prior to the apology, the congresswoman asked whether he was “going to take responsibility for spreading fabricated information about a sitting member of Congress.”
