White House press secretary Stephanie Grisham suggested that President Trump may take action against lawmakers and others who attempted to remove him from office.
Grisham appeared on Fox News on Thursday to discuss the president and his administration’s plans after the Senate acquitted him on two impeachment articles that the House passed last year.
“People should be held accountable. The Democrats should be held accountable for not only what they did to the president and to his family and the administration but the country,” she said.
“People need to understand what the Democrats did was dishonest, and it was corrupt, and it had no other motive than to take him out in 2020,” the press secretary continued. “People should be held accountable for anything they do to try to hurt this country and this president.”
On Wednesday, the Senate voted 52-48 to acquit Trump on the first article of impeachment alleging that he abused his power by pressuring Ukraine to investigate his political opponents in exchange for U.S. military aid. Utah Sen. Mitt Romney was the only Republican to vote against Trump on the charge.
Romney joined Republicans, however, in voting down the second article of impeachment alleging that Trump obstructed Congress by declaring executive privilege over documents and witness testimony sought during the House’s impeachment investigation.
