Trump takes veiled jabs at Romney and Pelosi for using ‘faith as justification’ for doing ‘wrong’

President Trump took a few veiled shots at House Speaker Nancy Pelosi and Utah Sen. Mitt Romney while criticizing disingenuous Christians following his impeachment acquittal.

Trump sounded off about his impeachment at Thursday’s National Prayer Breakfast in the Washington Hilton Hotel, just a day after he was acquitted of both articles against him in the Senate.

“As everybody knows, my family, our great country, and your president have been put through a terrible ordeal by some very dishonest and corrupt people,” said Trump. “They have done everything possible to destroy us and by so doing, very badly hurt our nation. They know what they are doing is wrong, but they put themselves far ahead of our great country.”

However, the president did praise Senate Republicans, who all voted to acquit him aside from Romney, who voted to convict him on the abuse of power charge.

“Weeks ago, and again yesterday, courageous Republican politicians and leaders had the wisdom, fortitude, and strength to do what everyone knows was right,” he continued.

The president did not spare his criticism of Romney, who referenced his faith in explaining his vote, or Pelosi, who has claimed that she prays for him every day.

“I don’t like people who use their faith as justification for doing what they know is wrong,” Trump said. “Nor do I like people who say ‘I pray for you’ when they know that that’s not so.”

He added, “So many people have been hurt, and we can’t let that go on.”
