Former Pakistan prime minister shot in leg but out of danger, reports say


Former Pakistan Prime Minister Imran Khan was wounded in the leg during a shooting on Thursday, per multiple outlets.

Khan was injured when his convoy was shot at in the east part of the country on Thursday, Reuters reported. He was reportedly leading a protest march in Islamabad to demand snap elections.

Sky News reporter Cordelia Lynch reported that Khan was on day six of his march from Lahore to Islamabad, continuing his trend of giving fiery speeches across the country. He was shot in Wazirabad, per Sky News.

Lynch said she had just interviewed him about his march, which he called a “peaceful protest,” when suddenly there was a lot of commotion.

Khan was rushed away from the scene, and his supporters said that he had survived the “assassination attempt,” per Sky News.

The former prime minister was charged in August under the country’s Anti-Terrorism Act for alleged threats he made against law enforcement and judicial institutions after he was recently deposed.
