Russian forces have destroyed all the food stocks in one Ukrainian city as their offensive in the eastern part of the country escalates, according to a local official.
The governor of the Luhansk region in Donbas said on Thursday that all food warehouses in the city of Sievierodonetsk have been leveled by Russian troops. Residents in the city who have not evacuated will now only be able to receive food through humanitarian aid, according to Luhansk’s governor, which could be difficult to obtain given Russia’s continued bombardment of the region.
“There are no surviving food stocks left in Sievierodonetsk. The Russians destroyed them,” Luhansk Gov. Serhiy Haidai said in a Telegram post on Thursday.
Ukrainian officials have accused Russia in the past of blocking humanitarian aid convoys, as well as targeting them with shelling and gunfire.

Haidai also said in his post that in the last day, the towns of Rubizhne and Novodruzhsk have seen the most damage from Russian assaults, with several residential buildings left uninhabitable.
Despite the dire food and housing situation in Sievierodonetsk, the governor claimed that Ukrainian forces have had success repelling Russian forces on the front lines in Luhansk. According to the governor, the Ukrainian side has destroyed a Russian anti-aircraft system, a tank, an artillery system, 10 armored units, and three drones as well as shot down a cruise missile, among other recent successes in Luhansk.
