Buzz: New White House fence in operation, Jared and Ivanka fete Charlie Kirk, Bush called mom ‘Blurter’

Parts of the new $64 million, 13-foot-tall fence around the White House have gone into operation.

Trucks and cars have started to roll through the northwest gate, and the media and appointments gatehouse is in operation. Gone is the temporary gate for the media.

This week, several pallets of sod were delivered to cover the lawn that was torn up during the installation of the black fencing along Pennsylvania Avenue.

  • Former President George W. Bush has a nickname for his mother, the late former first lady Barbara Bush. “Blurter,” he called her in the new book, Pearls of Wisdom: Little Pieces of Advice, a collection of her sayings and diary notes. Bush said he inherited his mother’s blurting. “I’ve always said I inherited my daddy’s eyes and my mother’s mouth,” he said in the book. Bush wrote of his last call to her, in which she lightened up the gloom, saying, “You’re my favorite son — on the phone.”
  • Vice President Mike Pence, the coronavirus czar, tells us that the administration has told 3M to put the pedal to the metal in producing more face masks. He said the company was starting to produce 35 million masks. Asked how fast it will happen, he said the firm would produce that many “a week.”

Hosts Ivanka Trump and Jared Kushner described the leader of Students for Trump as “family,” and he was gracious in thanking them. Others at the party included acting Director of National Intelligence Richard Grenell, Sen. Mike Lee, Kellyanne Conway, Sean Spicer, and Reps. Matt Gaetz and Dan Crenshaw.
