Pete Buttigieg’s campaign raised $7 million in April, the same amount he raised in total in his first quarter of the presidential campaign.
The April haul, reported by Politico, could help cement his status in the upper tier of 2020 Democratic candidates.
Buttigieg, the 37-year-old mayor of South Bend, Ind., has 21 fundraising events scheduled before the end of the second quarter deadline in late June. Those events include stops in Los Angeles, New York, and Washington, D.C.
His campaign hopes to continue the momentum going into the third quarter. In July, he has fundraisers scheduled in other wealthy locales, including Martha’s Vineyard and Nantucket.
Buttigieg, who began his campaign as a little-known candidate, has been gaining popularity since a CNN town hall in March. He sits in fourth place among nearly two dozen candidates, according to a RealClearPolitics average of national polls. Joe Biden, Bernie Sanders, and Elizabeth Warren are in the first three spots, respectively.
