President Trump’s eldest son is slamming CBS News, saying the outlet knowingly published a false report about his recent trip to Utah.
“I would say that CBS News should be ashamed of themselves for their knowingly dishonest hit piece on me,” Donald Trump Jr. told Fox News. “But we’re talking about a media company that has STILL not written a single story about an alleged victim of Jeffrey Epstein claiming she saw Bill Clinton on ‘pedophile island.’ So we know they have no shame to begin with.”
The report, published Wednesday, outlined how Trump Jr. shot Desert Tech rifles and appeared in a promotional video for the company, which has been the center of state investigations as a result of an alleged fraud scheme totaling more than $1 billion.
“Awesome time guys. Can’t wait to do it again soon,” Trump Jr. replied to an Instagram post from the company following his trip to Utah.
The president’s son argued his trip was not worth covering.
“They invited me to go shooting while I was in Utah, took a picture of me and posted it on their Instagram page,” he said. “Who besides the left-wing activists at CBS News truly believes that’s even remotely newsworthy?”
Desert Tech is owned by a man with ties to The Order, an extremist organization labeled as a hate group by the Southern Poverty Law Center for espousing hateful rhetoric about gay and black people.
“It’s honestly just really disheartening because as somebody that has come from the Kingston Group, and I was born and raised there. … It’s just really frustrating to see that they’re hanging out with the president’s son because, as somebody that’s trying to raise awareness to what’s going on there, it almost feels like they’re kind of protected in a way, like what they’re doing is OK,” a former member of the group told CBS News.
Trump Jr. said the outlet is trying to “deceive their readers into thinking I had some sort of relationship with Desert Tech, when in reality, I barely even know them.”
