The Pennsylvania Democrat who is clinging to a small lead in Tuesday’s House special election said Wednesday that he’s winning because voters are tired of the “cartoonish campaign” tactics that President Trump and Republicans used against him.
“There was a lot of foolishness in this election, and a lot of really cartoonish campaigning,” Lamb said on CNN.
Democrat Conor Lamb on Trump calling him ‘Lamb the sham’: “There was a lot of foolishness in this election and a lot of really cartoonish campaigning… By the time of the President’s visit last weekend, people were kind of tired of that approach.” https://t.co/8gHkZfx18T pic.twitter.com/vlwiMBdAPP

He said a lot of those tactics were used by Republicans even before Trump showed up in Pennsylvania last weekend and called him “Lamb the sham.” But he said Trump’s visit continued more of the same tactics that many voters are rejecting.
“I think by the time of the president’s visit last weekend, people were kind of tired of that entire approach,” he said.
“I had people, especially elderly people, coming up to me almost every day, and just saying, ‘Man, I hate those ads against you. It’s not right, it’s not worthy of us.'”
“And so i think there was just a little bit of burnout on that type of campaigning before the president ever got here,” he said.
With 100 percent of the districts precincts reporting, Lamb had a 641 vote lead. The race is not expected to be called until more than 1,000 absentee ballots are counted.
Lamb nonetheless has claimed victory, although his Republican opponent, Rick Saccone, could still call for a recount.
