Kamala Harris polling in fourth place in home state of California

Democratic presidential contender Sen. Kamala Harris was not able to break into the top three spots in her home state of California, according to a new poll.

The poll from the University of California, Berkeley, has Joe Biden leading the pack at 22% support among Democratic California voters. Sens. Elizabeth Warren of Massachusetts and Bernie Sanders of Vermont took in 18% and 17% support, respectively. Despite her lackluster showing in the poll, Harris was the top second choice among voters surveyed.

Harris, who has served as the Golden State’s junior senator since 2017, came in fourth place with 13% support. California is an important primary state because of its large number of delegates and the fact that its primary will be held earlier than the last presidential election, with residents heading to the polls on March 3.

A RealClearPolitics national average of polls has Harris at 6.6% support, behind Biden, Sanders, Warren, and South Bend, Ind., Mayor Pete Buttigieg.
