Man hanging from Chicago Trump Tower for 13 hours demanding to speak to Trump taken into custody

After more than 12 hours, a man who had hung from a ledge of the Chicago Trump Tower demanding that he speak to President Trump has safely come down from the side of the building and is in custody.

“Situation resolved peacefully by Negotiators. Suspect in custody. No injuries,” Chicago Police spokesman Tom Ahern said in a tweet Monday morning after more than 13 hours of negotiations.

At about 5:30 p.m. on Sunday, Chicago police officers, fire department officials, and a SWAT team arrived at the tower after it was reported that a man was suspended from the 16th floor of the riverfront skyscraper. Nearby streets were closed as spectators began to gather around the tower.

According to video, the man had used a rope and climbing gear to scale the building. Witnesses to the event said that the climber was threatening suicide if he did not get to speak with the president.

Despite “multiple negotiation tactics,” according to a tweet from a CBS Chicago journalist, no progress had been made until Monday morning.
