Day 2 of Brett Kavanaugh’s confirmation hearing kicks off with protests

The second day of Brett Kavanaugh’s confirmation hearing began with protests from members of the public criticizing his nomination to the Supreme Court.

At least 10 people, mostly women, were removed from the hearing room by Capitol Police after they began shouting just minutes after Senate Judiciary Committee Chairman Chuck Grassley gaveled to start the confirmation hearing.

A man dressed in a blue shirt began criticizing the federal judiciary, saying the country needs a judiciary that “protects the rights of people with disabilities.”

Another woman began shouting “This is the American people talking,” and a third changed “Sham president, sham justice.”

A protester, who was also removed from the room by Capitol Police, chanted “mother earth, mother earth.”

Kavanaugh appeared before the Judiciary Committee for the second day of his confirmation hearing Wednesday, during which he will be grilled by the committee’s 21 Republicans and Democrats.

Each senator will have 30 minutes to question Kavanaugh.

The first day of Kavanaugh’s confirmation hearing Tuesday got off to a chaotic start, as Democratic senators on the panel and a bevy of protesters spoke out against his nomination.
