Law enforcement arrested the husband of an upstate New York Mayor on Wednesday on drugs and weapons charges after police raided their shared home.
Timothy Granison, 42, the spouse of Rochester Mayor Lovely Warren, was jailed following a traffic stop, in which authorities said they found him in possession of a large quantity of cocaine with intent to sell, New York State Police Maj. Barry Chase said during a Thursday press conference. After his apprehension, investigators spent multiple hours inside the residence of Warren, a Democrat, as journalists witnessed investigators removing items from behind crime scene tape.
Chase said his officers recovered an unregistered handgun during the raid, compounding his list of alleged offenses. Granison faces two counts of possession of a controlled substance and one count of unlawful possession of a firearm. He has since been released from confinement and is due in court in June.
Monroe County District Attorney Sandra Doorley said Granison’s arrest is part of a “long-term investigation,” which has spanned over seven months and included wiretapping surveillance. She further indicated that Granison was not the intended target of the investigation and that his shared residence with Warren was one of several that police searched between Wednesday and Thursday.
GRAND JURY INDICTS ROCHESTER MAYOR FOLLOWING CAMPAIGN FINANCE INVESTIGATION
In all, the investigation has led to a seizure of $60,000 in cocaine, $100,000 in cash, and three firearms.
When Doorley was asked whether the mayor could face criminal charges, she did not rule out her involvement, saying, “We’re not done with the investigation.” State police are in the process of contacting Warren for an interview through her lawyer.
“We do want to interview her,” Chase added.
In October, the Democratic Mayor was indicted on two felony campaign finance charges after she purportedly raked in a “substantial” amount more than the allowable maximum contribution amount of $8,557. Rosalind Brooks-Harris and Albert Jones Jr., the treasurers of Warren’s political action committee and campaign, were also indicted by the grand jury.
The Monroe County District Attorney’s Office has said the Wednesday search is not connected to the previous indictment, in which Warren pleaded not guilty.
Warren, 43, is serving her second term in office and is in the middle of a reelection campaign as a primary is fast approaching next month.
When Granison was 17, he received probation for his role as a getaway driver during a robbery. It is unclear if he is prohibited from owning firearms.
