Mika Brzezinski blames Trump for steering Kavanaugh debate ‘into the ditch’

MSNBC “Morning Joe” co-host Mika Brzezinski on Tuesday accused President Trump of lowering the debate over Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh’s confirmation after Trump questioned Christine Blasey Ford’s recollection of her alleged sexual assault by Kavanaugh.

“This is why I said the day the hearings began [last week] that this is exactly what Donald Trump loves and wants,” Brzezinski said Wednesday. “This type of issue, this type of problem with the Supreme Court nominee, because he loves to sow doubt in people.”

During a campaign-style rally the previous night in Southaven, Miss., Trump cast doubt on the testimony by Ford, who testified to the Senate last week that Kavanaugh sexually assaulted her more than 30 years ago when they were in high school.

“I had one beer and that’s the only thing I remember,” Trump said, parodying Ford’s recollection of the evening of the alleged assault.

Trump questioned why Ford could not recall key details. “How did you get home? I don’t remember. How did you get there? I don’t remember. Where is the place? I don’t remember. How many years ago was it? I don’t know. I don’t know. I don’t know.”

Brzezinski said on her show that Trump “loves to sort of shove in that vulgar disparaging angle” and that “one of the cruxes of this argument is due process and is finding out the truth and it’s something that I think good patriots good men and women are all struggling with and Trump loves to bring it down into the ditch.”

Senate Republicans, however, have said it’s Democrats and the news media who have pushed flimsy, uncorroborated accusations against Kavanaugh in an effort to derail his nomination.
