Mike Tyson set to reenter ring with exhibition fight versus Roy Jones Jr.

One of the top prizefighters of all time is headed back into the ring.

Boxer Mike Tyson, who showed off his fighting skills in a video released in May, announced on Thursday his plan to fight Roy Jones Jr. in an eight-round exhibition match.

The 54-year-old boxing legend, nicknamed “Iron Mike,” will fight the similarly aged Jones in a pay-per-view matchup. The fight, sanctioned by the California State Athletic Commission, is scheduled to take place on Sept. 12 in Los Angeles.

Tyson was 50-6 as a pro and is best known for his fight with Evander Holyfield, during which Tyson bit Holyfield’s ear and was disqualified from the fight. He defeated top boxers including Larry Holmes and Michael Spinx throughout his career.

Jones is also known as one of the premier fighters of the sport, holding titles in four separate weight divisions and posting a 66-9 career record with victories over Bernard Hopkins and Felix Trinidad.

Tyson, who was found guilty of raping Desiree Washington in 1992 and whose substance abuse issues have made news headlines, has teased a potential rematch with Holyfield. Some speculate that the fight may happen after the Jones matchup.
