MSNBC anchor Joe Scarborough offered rare praise of President Trump Tuesday following Trump’s historic summit with North Korean leader Kim Jong Un in Singapore, saying he felt relieved given months of escalated tensions between the two nations.
“I’ve got to admit: When I see these two people shaking hands, I feel a sense of relief, as do a lot of people in Washington, knowing how bleak the situation was six months ago,” Scarborough, co-host of the cable news network’s “Morning Joe” program, said of Trump and Kim.

Scarborough added the series of bilateral meetings held in Singapore, which resulted in Trump and Kim signing a four-point joint declaration affirming common goals, would be “positive” politically for Trump in light of speculation regarding the likelihood of war in 2017.
“[American voters] are going to look at the front page of the paper today and they’re going to say, ‘Good on him. This is a hell of a lot better than a nuclear war,'” Scarborough said. “And who knows, maybe shaking things up, maybe saying ‘no’ to the experts, maybe raising hell on the world stage, maybe calling him ‘Little Rocket Man,’ maybe threatening him got these two together?”
The MSNBC personality and former GOP lawmaker has been a staunch critic of Trump, deregistering from the Republican Party in October over its support of the president.
