‘Have we ever had Google?’: Ilhan Omar mocked for forgetting Bill Clinton was impeached

Rep. Ilhan Omar caught flak after she asked whether President Trump would be the first president to give a State of the Union address while impeachment proceedings were underway.

“Have we ever had an impeached President, deliver the State of the Union address while he is on trial in the Senate?” the Minnesota Democrat said Sunday on Twitter. “Given the audience in the room will be both his prosecutors and jurors on said trial.”

The freshman congresswoman was mocked on social media by those who pointed out that former President Bill Clinton also gave a State of the Union address during his Senate impeachment trial. “Have we ever had Google?” Politico reporter Marc Caputo tweeted in response to Omar.

In 1999, Clinton gave a 78-minute State of the Union address without mentioning impeachment even as the Senate was holding arguments the same day.

“Congresswoman, you have a staff that can research this for you,” RedState senior editor Joe Cunningham said in response to Omar. “You don’t have to ask your followers to inform you that Bill Clinton gave a State of the Union address while his trial was underway.”

Trump is slated to give his address on Tuesday with his impeachment trial still wrapping up. A vote to acquit Trump on two Ukraine-related charges is expected on Wednesday.
