Two McDonald’s employees in Oklahoma City were shot after telling customers the fast-food restaurant’s dining room was closed in compliance with coronavirus restrictions.
At least three McDonald’s employees were injured after the scuffle broke out, which began when employees told a female customer, whose name has not been released publicly, that she could not sit in the dine-in area. Two workers were shot while another was hurt in the commotion. None of the injuries are considered life-threatening, and everyone is expected to make a full recovery.
The female suspect was arrested and is in custody.
“Obviously, it’s a heinous crime, particularly because these two people were trying to really support public health,” McDonald’s CEO Chris Kempczinski said in a Thursday interview on Good Morning America.
“I think, you know, what you’re seeing in this situation is really what you’re seeing in a variety of situations across the country, which is this tension about opening and people’s concern about it,” he added. “But there’s absolutely no excuse for violence, particularly gun violence. So, I’m just happy our people are going to be okay.”
The incident is among others that have been reported as authorities, and businesses attempt to enforce coronavirus restrictions. Over the weekend, a security guard was fatally shot following a dispute with customers over face masks.
