Boris Johnson given oxygen treatment after coronavirus hospitalization

British Prime Minister Boris Johnson received an oxygen treatment after being hospitalized for persistent coronavirus symptoms.

Johnson, who was admitted to St. Thomas’ Hospital, was not taken to the medical facility by ambulance, according to the Times of London. His office stressed the hospitalization was not an emergency admission.

A spokesperson for Downing Street said Johnson, 55, went to the hospital “on the advice of his doctor” after he continued to have persistent symptoms, including a high fever. Johnson tested positive for the coronavirus nearly two weeks ago.

Last week, the Guardian reported that Johnson was more ill than Downing Street wanted to admit and that his doctors were concerned about his breathing.

President Trump sent his well-wishes to Johnson during one of his daily news conferences on the coronavirus pandemic.

“I want to express our nation’s well-wishes to Prime Minister Boris Johnson as he wages his own personal fight with the virus,” Trump said. “All Americans are praying for him. He’s a friend of mine and a great gentleman.”

“As you know, he was brought to the hospital today, but I’m hopeful and sure that he’s going to be fine,” he added.
