92 percent of TV coverage on Trump’s immigration policy is negative: Report

The MRC judged whether stories were anti-Trump by examining statements on every topic from the travel ban, proposed border wall and increased deportation. The statements looked at comments that could be viewed as positive or negative, from reporters, anchors, and non-partisan sources like experts or citizens.

The watchdog group said its study also looked at how often the networks examined how Trump’s policies affected immigrants, instead of focusing on stories about Americans harmed by illegal immigrants.

“We tallied each individual soundbite in these immigration stories, and found a heavy preference for the personal anecdotes of those seen as victims of the Trump policies: illegal immigrants and their families, or banned travelers and their families,” MRC said.

In separate studies, MRC has looked at all evening news coverage about Trump and found that 90 percent of it was negative from the beginning of his presidency to the end of April.

Since becoming the Republican candidate, Trump has often attacked media outlets for being “fake news,” and has battled with CNN in particular many times.

The only major news network Trump has not attacked as “fake news” is Fox News, which is the only mainstream media television outlet that covers Trump mostly in a positive way, and frequently has him on as a guest.
