Conservative judicial group launches ad buy highlighting Kavanaugh’s confirmation hearing remarks

Judicial Crisis Network, a conservative judicial advocacy group, launched a six-figure ad buy in support of Judge Brett Kavanaugh, President Trump’s nominee to the Supreme Court, featuring his remarks from the first day of his confirmation hearing.

The $600,000 ad buy, which launched Wednesday, will air for two weeks on Fox, MSNBC, and CNN.

“We’re tired of the Democrat carnival. It is time for the American people to meet Judge Kavanaugh for themselves — here he is in his own words,” Carrie Severino, chief counsel and policy adviser to Judicial Crisis Network, said in a statement.

The 30-second ad features Kavanaugh’s opening remarks before the Senate Judiciary Committee on Tuesday, during which he described himself as a “pro-law judge.”

“If confirmed to the Supreme Court, I will keep an open mind in every case,” he said. “I will always strive to preserve the Constitution of the United States and the American rule of law.”

The spot urges support for Kavanaugh’s nomination.

Kavanaugh, a judge on the U.S. Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia Circuit, was nominated to the Supreme Court by Trump in July.

His confirmation hearing began Tuesday and is scheduled to last until Friday.

The hearing kicked off with opening statements from the Judiciary Committee’s 21 members, as well as introductions from former Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice, Sen. Rob Portman, R-Ohio, and Supreme Court litigator Lisa Blatt.

The three praised Kavanaugh’s credentials and judicial record.

Kavanaugh himself made his first remarks to the committee Tuesday and took questions from the Judiciary Committee for more than 10 hours Wednesday.
