Trump lashes out at Robert Mueller after Paul Manafort accused of breaking plea deal

President Trump on Tuesday accused special counsel Robert Mueller of damaging the criminal justice system, a day after Trump’s former campaign chairman Paul Manafort was accused of breaking the terms of his plea agreement.

In several tweets Tuesday morning, Trump berated Mueller over the “phony witch hunt” Russia investigation, questioned the former FBI director’s credibility, and accused him of ruining the lives of people caught up in the investigation.

“Wait until it comes out how horribly & viciously they are treating people, ruining lives for them refusing to lie. Mueller is a conflicted prosecutor gone rogue,” Trump wrote.

“He is doing TREMENDOUS damage to our Criminal Justice System, where he is only looking at one side and not the other. Heroes will come of this, and it won’t be Mueller,” he added.

Several people entangled in the Mueller investigation, including the president’s former national security adviser Michael Flynn, have pleaded guilty to lying to authorities.

On Monday, prosecutors accused Manafort of breaking the terms of his plea agreement by lying to the FBI and special counsel “on a variety of subject matters.” Prosecutors have not said what Manafort is accused of lying about, but the terms of his plea deal, reached in September, are now in jeopardy and he could face a life sentence as a result.

Lawyers for Manafort denied their client lied to investigators after the plea deal was reached.
