Trump says feds succeeded in Puerto Rico despite ‘totally incompetent’ San Juan mayor

President Trump on Wednesday said his administration did “great job” helping Puerto Rico recover from Hurricane Maria last year even though it was hampered by San Juan’s “totally incompetent” mayor.

“We got A Pluses for our recent hurricane work in Texas and Florida (and did an unappreciated great job in Puerto Rico, even though an inaccessible island with very poor electricity and a totally incompetent Mayor of San Juan),” Trump tweeted. “We are ready for the big one that is coming!”

Trump also assured the public that the Federal Emergency Management Agency, first responders and law enforcement are ready and prepared for Hurricane Florence and the potential damage it will cause once it hits the Carolinas.

“Hurricane Florence is looking even bigger than anticipated. It will be arriving soon,” Trump tweeted Wednesday morning. “FEMA, First Responders and Law Enforcement are supplied and ready. Be safe!”

Trump and FEMA have received backlash for the handling of Puerto Rico after it was hit by the hurricane almost a year ago.

The official death toll was released at the end of August, almost a year after the incident, indicating that almost 3,000 people had died as a result of the hurricane. Puerto Rico is also still struggling to get electricity back to all parts of the island.
