Radio host questions why people would unite around Joe Biden after Democrats called Trump supporters ‘Nazis’ for four years

Conservative commentator Larry Elder said that Democrats, who spent four years accusing President Trump’s supporters of being “Nazis,” should not expect the country to unite around President-elect Joe Biden.

“After four years of attacking President Donald Trump as ‘illegitimate,’ ‘fascist,’ ‘Nazi,’ ‘tyrant,’ ‘dictator,’ ‘racist,’ ‘anti-Semitic,’ ‘Russian stooge,’ ‘traitor,’ ‘grifter,’ ‘xenophobe,’ ‘sexist,’ ‘homophobe,’ ‘ignorant,’ ‘fat,’ and ‘lazy,’ Former Vice President Joe Biden, the presumptive president-elect, now says ‘Let’s heal,’” Elder wrote Wednesday in an op-ed.

“Well, that’s lovely,” Elder continued. “But please forgive Trump supporters for not being in a mood to ‘heal.’”

Elder said that Biden’s calls to “give each other a chance” and to “listen to each other again” could understandably fall on deaf ears after Democrats spent most of Trump’s presidency pushing a Trump-Russia collusion investigation that led nowhere and an impeachment that relied on shaky evidence.

“Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein and former FBI Director James Comey now admit that, knowing then what they know now, they would not have signed off on FISA warrants that were crucial to the investigation,” Elder said.

Elder noted, citing a Gallup poll, that while both “Republicans and Democrats acknowledge the 2016 Russian election interference,” it is “78 percent of Democrats” who believe the Kremlin actually changed the outcome of the election, despite former President Barack Obama’s Secretary of Homeland Security Jeh Johnson’s testimony saying there was no evidence that was the case.

“Whatever Russia, China, or Iran did to meddle with our elections pales in comparison to the impact of our biased, bigoted, Republican-hating, class-warfare waging, secular, ‘health care is a right,’ ‘there’s no such thing as illegal people, only undocumented,’ Donald Trump-hating media,” Elder continued. “Let’s compare the impact of Russian, Chinese or Iranian election interference with the election interference of the American media.”

Citing economics and political science professor Tim Groseclose’s book, Left Turn: How Liberal Media Bias Distorts the American Mind, Elder questioned how the “overwhelmingly liberal media” affects “how Americans think and vote.”

“For the past several years, I have researched this question, trying to solve the following thought experiment: What if media bias were suddenly to disappear? In such a world, how would America look and act politically,” Groseclose wrote in 2011. “The answer is, approximately like Texas.”

“More specifically, if media bias were to disappear, according to the analysis, then America would think and vote like any region that voted around 56-43 percent for Republican John McCain in the last presidential election,” Groseclose continued. “Besides Texas, such regions include Kansas, North Dakota, Kentucky, Salt Lake County, Utah, and Orange County, Calif.”

Elder also quoted New York Times Executive Editor Dean Baquet, who said that the “left, as a rule, does not want to hear thoughtful disagreement.”

“Given this mentality, liberals, Democrats, and the media find Trump absolutely, positively insufferable,” Elder said. “This raises a question. Mr. Biden, which side needs to heal?”
