University presidents visit Israel in an effort to promote academic collaboration with Israeli academics

Ten American university and college presidents are visiting Israel on a trip to promote bilateral academic ties. The delegation will meet with Israeli universities to discuss Israel’s technological growth, as well as the research process that has made the country one of the leading innovators in science and medicine in the world.

Additionally, the university heads will be discussing Israel’s unique security challenges and humanitarian efforts, which have led them to seek out entrepreneurial ventures in an effort to combat regional threats.

According to the Algemeiner, “The 17-member delegation — organized by the American Jewish Committee’s (AJC) Project Interchange — includes the heads of Cornell University, California State University at San Bernardino, Tulane University, Northern Arizona University, Illinois Institute of Technology, Sonoma State University, Tufts University, University of Minnesota, University of San Diego, and University of Vermont.”

Mike Fitts, the president of Tulane University, told the Algemeiner that “he was excited by the opportunity to address long standing societal problems in the environment, healthcare, energy and numerous other areas with Israeli universities.”

Sonoma State President Judy Sakaki told the paper that on her first trip to Israel, she’s looking forward “to the opportunity to explore partnerships with my colleagues in higher education including those at some of Israel’s most esteemed universities.”
