There’s a new class of social justice warrior: the privileged victim.
In the new book, Privileged Victims: How America’s Culture Fascists Hijacked the Country and Elevated Its Worst People, author Eddie Scarry unpacks how liberals and progressives have evolved to a new form of being oppressed and victimized, yet continue to assert their privilege over anyone who presents a view that challenges them.
“What they have figured out and what they have been learned, what they have been taught by our culture, which includes academia college campuses, it’s everywhere, is that if you want to advance your own interests and want to get ahead in any kind of way — it could be money, it can be you want a new job, you want national attention, you want national fame — you simply claim to have been aggrieved, victimized, oppressed,” Scarry told Hashing it Out.
He continued: “And it’s not just any kind of victimization. It’s always based on your gender, based on your race, sexuality, or any combination therein of those three.”
