President Trump said Wednesday morning that Senate Republicans could not have handled the sexual assault allegations against Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh any better, adding that he wished they would have pushed the process forward “much faster.”
“Well, I think the Senate, the Republicans could not be nicer in the way they are handling this,” Trump told reporters Wednesday at the United Nations General Assembly in New York. “They could have pushed it through two-and-a-half weeks ago and you wouldn’t be talking about it right now, which is frankly what I would have preferred.”
The president also added that the Republicans could not have been more “respectful” to Kavanaugh’s accusers.

The Senate Judiciary Committee is expected to meet Thursday to hear testimony from the first woman accusing Kavanaugh of sexual assault, California professor Christine Blasey Ford. A second Kavanaugh accuser, Deborah Ramirez, accuses Kavanaugh of exposing himself to her at a party while they were students at Yale University. Her attorney says she is also willing to testify.
After hearing from Ford and Kavanaugh on Thursday, Republicans are expected to push Kavanaugh’s confirmation through the Senate in an expedited fashion.
