‘Most millennial move he could pull’: Meghan McCain hits Buttigieg for claiming Iowa victory

Meghan McCain ripped Pete Buttigieg for giving a victory speech in Iowa before any of the caucus results were announced.

On Monday night, Iowa Democrats were unable to reveal any results from the caucuses because of a failure in their reporting app. The botched results didn’t stop Buttigieg from claiming a win on Monday night. In addition to a victory speech, he tweeted: “Iowa, you have shocked the nation. By all indications, we are going on to New Hampshire victorious.”

While Buttigieg was celebrating his claimed win, Sen. Bernie Sanders released his campaign’s internal results showing that he had won. The Sanders campaign showed the Vermont senator with 29.66% of the vote, followed by Buttigieg with 24.59%, and Sen. Elizabeth Warren with 21.24%. None of those results have been confirmed by the state, however.

The former South Bend, Indiana, mayor then flew to New Hampshire to continue his campaign. When he was confronted about his early celebration by reporters on Tuesday, he refused to answer any questions.

On Tuesday morning, McCain, 35, trashed Buttigieg for celebrating before any results had been published. She tweeted, “Mayor Pete claiming victory when there’s no results in whatsoever, is truly the most millennial move he could pull. #ParticipationTrophy.”

Buttigieg, 38, is one of two millennial candidates in the Democratic presidential race alongside 38-year-old Tulsi Gabbard. Several of the top-tier candidates, including Warren, Sanders, Joe Biden, and Michael Bloomberg, are all over the age of 70.
