Authorities in Nicaragua arrested four suspected members of the Islamic State group after they entered illegally from Costa Rica.
The Nicaraguan National Police said the four were captured Tuesday after getting through an illegal border crossing in the southwest of the country. Two of the men are Egyptian while the other two are Iraqi, according to authorities.
The Egyptians were identified as Mohamed Ibrahim, 33, and Mahmoud Samy Eissa, 26, and the Iraqis were 41-year-old Ahmed Ghanim Mohamed Al Jubury and 29-year-old Mustafa Ali Mohamed Yaoob.
Homeland Security Investigations had sent out an alert this month that warned that three possible ISIS members had arrived in Central America. Three of the men arrested matched the identities outlined in the alert. The three men had entered Costa Rica by way of Panama while the fourth registered entry to Costa Rica on June 13.
The four were deported to Costa Rica the same day they were captured.
