Joe Biden has notched up a lead in another Wisconsin poll.
The presumptive 2020 Democratic presidential nominee has 51% support in the crucial battleground state, compared to President Trump’s 42%, a Congressional Integrity Project-commissioned Strategy Group poll released Monday found. The survey was GSG’s first of the 2020 election cycle.
Biden has an average 5-point and 6.6-point advantage in Wisconsin for its 10 electoral votes, according to contest forecasters RealClearPolitics and FiveThirtyEight, respectively.
Monday’s poll quizzed respondents regarding Wisconsin Sen. Ron Johnson, who is also the Senate Homeland Security Committee’s top Republican. Johnson’s panel is investigating Burisma Holdings, a Ukrainian energy firm that previously employed Joe Biden’s son, Hunter.
Researchers found 55% became concerned about Johnson’s inquiry after being told Trump is encouraging it, and GOP lawmakers “are only supporting the probe to help Trump win in the November election.”
Hunter Biden was a member of Burisma’s board when his father was vice president and spearheading the Obama administration’s Ukraine policy. Trump and his allies allege that the elder Biden improperly leveraged his position to shield his son from a Ukrainian investigation. The pair deny any wrongdoing.
Johnson told reporters in May he hoped to publish an inquiry report “in the June time frame, personally, certainly before the August recess.”
CSG surveyed 600 likely Wisconsin voters from July 11 to July 17. The firm’s findings have a margin of error of plus or minus 4 points.
