The Atlanta rapper “Young Thug” was indicted as one of 28 people charged on Monday with racketeering and gang involvement.
Young Thug, also known as Jeffery Lamar Williams, was arrested on Monday as part of a larger gang indictment connected to a local gang. The rapper was taken into custody at his home in Buckhead, Georgia.
Williams is allegedly one of three founders of Young Slime Life, “a criminal street gang that started in late 2012” in Atlanta, according to the indictment. The gang allegedly has connections with the national Bloods gang. The other indictments include Williams’s fellow rapper Gunna, also known as Sergio Giavanni Kitchens.
The gang’s members face charges of “preserving, protecting and enhancing the reputation, power, and territory of the enterprise through acts of racketeering activity including murder, assault, and threats of violence,” according to the indictment. Williams’s alleged criminal activity also included song lyrics and social media posts that prosecutors claim were “overt act(s) in furtherance of the conspiracy.” He is also accused of drug possession with intent to distribute and theft by receiving stolen property.

The indictment also named Christian Eppinger, a man whom Atlanta police accused of shooting a veteran gang unit officer six times on Feb. 7. Eppinger drew criticism in April when a judge released him on bond. The judge later amended the bond from $400,000 to $2 million.
Williams has been arrested in the past. He was arrested in 2017 on drug charges in DeKalb County alongside Kitchens.

Williams and Kitchens have evaded legal attention until recently, allowing their media presences to grow significantly. Williams was featured in Camila Cabello’s 2018 pop song “Havana.” He has also appeared on Travis Scott’s song “Franchise” in 2020 and Drake’s “Way 2 Sexy” in 2021.
