CNN mocked after announcing new team dedicated to ‘covering misinformation’

CNN was ripped online Tuesday after a top editor for the left-leaning network announced the creation of a special CNN team dedicated to “covering misinformation.”

“I’m hiring 3 people for a new CNN team dedicated to covering misinformation,” CNN Business Managing Editor Alex Koppelman posted to Twitter.

“What do we mean by covering misinformation? Really it’s about covering reality: The uses, abuses, and distortions of it, the people twisting it, and the effect that has on all of us. We already do a lot of important work on this; we want to do more,” the post read.

To cover misinformation, CNN is looking for reporters who want to jump down every rabbit hole and hold liars accountable, Koppelman wrote.

“Do you get mad when you see liars taking advantage of people?” he asked. “Do you spend more time on the internet than anyone really should? This might be the job for you!”

The idea that “The Most Trusted Name In News” would cover misinformation was mocked ruthlessly by conservatives and those on the Right.

“Beyond parody,” Buck Sexton said.

“May I suggest they begin with the Charlottesville #FinePeopleHoax, a damnable calumny that CNN has propagated for years 5 years now? My repudiation of their role in spreading that myth led, in fact, to my departure from broadcasting for CNN,” political commentator Steve Cortes wrote.

“This is rather surprising. You don’t normally hear of left-wing networks hiring staff to call out its fellow anchors, reporters and analysts for spreading nonsense. Kudos to CNN for finally looking in a mirror to call out their misinformation and disingenuous takes,” said radio host Jason Rantz.

“Along with NBC, the New Yorker, the Atlantic and NYT, Ground Zero for the insane Trump-is-Putin’s-blackmail-pawn conspiracy theory was CNN. They were led around by CIA to spread the most unhinged conspiracy. Now they really believe they fight, rather than spread, ‘misinformation,'”Glenn Greenwald wrote.
