White House Weekly: April 27

President Trump signs an executive order barring some immigration to the United States. Meanwhile, on Twitter, the president issues a threat to the Iranian regime. Finally, Trump comes out against the state of Georgia reopening some businesses.

On Wednesday, April 22nd, President Trump signed an executive order to halt some legal immigration into the United States.

“This order will ensure that unemployed Americans of all backgrounds will be first in line for jobs as our economy reopens,” Trump said in a statement. “Crucially, we’ll also preserve our health care resources for American patients. We have to take care of our patients, we have to take care of our great American workers. And that’s what we’re doing.”

While the pandemic has largely halted immigration, the executive order is intended to “suspend” entry of intended green card holders for 60 days, buying the Trump administration some time to gauge the nation’s unemployment figures.

Next, Trump issued a threat against the Iranian regime.

On Twitter, the president wrote, “I have instructed the United States Navy to shoot down and destroy any and all Iranian gunboats if they harass our ships at sea.”

Trump wrote the tweet on the morning Iran launched a military satellite and a week after Pentagon officials alleged that Iranian vessels were harassing U.S. ships in the Persian Gulf.

Finally, Trump comes out in disagreement with Georgia Governor Brian Kemp.

“I told the governor of Georgia Brian Kemp that I disagree strongly with his decision to open certain facilities which are in violation of the phase one guidelines for the incredible people of Georgia,” Trump admitted.

The president went on to say that he wants to let the states decide when to reopen businesses, but that he’ll intervene if he saw “something totally egregious.”
