The Vietnam War veteran behind the Vietnam Veterans Memorial Wall has just won special recognition from the Pentagon for his efforts.
Jan Scruggs and some other veteran advocates were presented the Secretary of Defense Medal for Outstanding Public Service.
He told us, “It was an honor helping to commemorate the service of the millions of Americans who did their duty to the nation during the turbulent era of the Vietnam War. As with the Vietnam Veterans Memorial, we honored the veterans, not the war. Historians can debate the wisdom of that enterprise.” …
- Former Clinton special investigator Ken Starr has joined a new group that aims to improve business ethics around the world. He joins former journalist John Fund on the board of the Global Justice Foundation, headed by international businessman Omar Ayesh. Starr is the foundation’s legal counsel and Fund the senior adviser. It is a nonprofit group focused on “regions where senior managers and government officials in positions of power and influence undermine the fair market through corruption, falsification, racketeering and fraud.” …
- José Andrés, the chef whose recent fame included cooking for Puerto Ricans left homeless after 2017’s Hurricane Maria and balking at putting a restaurant in Washington’s Trump International Hotel, is getting an award from CARE, the Cooperative for American Relief Everywhere, which is focused on fighting world poverty. He is set to receive the Humanitarian Action Award at a June 11 event at the United States Institute of Peace. …
