The seat of the teenager who died after falling from an amusement park ride in Orlando last week was found locked after the incident, according to a state report.
Tyre Sampson, 14, died Thursday after he fell roughly 430 feet from the “Free Fall” drop tower at Orlando’s ICON Park.
The teenager fell from the ride when magnets used to slow down the ride during its descent were activated, according to a report.

“Harness was still in a down and locked position when the ride stopped,” according to the Fair Rides Division of the Florida Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services.
Three individuals, all employees, are listed in the report.
Employees were supposed to take the size and weight of individuals into consideration before allowing them on the ride, according to the ride’s Operations and Maintenance Manual. A weight of around 287 pounds was reportedly listed as the maximum.
“Be careful when seeing if large guests fit into the seats. Check that they fit within the contours of the seat and the bracket fits properly. If this is not so — Do not let this person ride,” the manual read.
“My son was 6’5″, 340 [pounds]. So, he’s a big guy,” said Yarnell Sampson, the teenager’s father.
Footage of the boy’s fall is reportedly being shared online, and the incident is still under investigation.

One ride, the Orlando SlingShot, has been suspended “until such time as a thorough investigation by the appropriate authorities has been completed and all parties are satisfied that the rides are safe for the public,” ICON Park said in a Monday statement.
