President Trump is branding the impeachment inquiry into him as “a lynching.”
Railing against the inquiry launched by House Democrats last month, the president implied Tuesday morning that Democrats are conducting the process “without due process or fairness or any legal rights,” equating the move to a “lynching.”
“So some day, if a Democrat becomes President and the Republicans win the House, even by a tiny margin, they can impeach the President, without due process or fairness or any legal rights,” he tweeted. “All Republicans must remember what they are witnessing here — a lynching. But we will WIN!”

House Speaker Nancy Pelosi announced an impeachment inquiry into the president last month in the wake of a whistleblower complaint about his July 25 phone call with the president of Ukraine. According to the complaint, the president attempted to withhold military aid to Ukraine in exchange for the country investigating former Vice President Joe Biden and debunked allegations that Ukraine interfered in the 2016 presidential election.
Last week, acting White House chief of staff Mick Mulvaney admitted that a quid pro quo was involved in the communications with Ukraine, but he later walked back the comment and blamed the media for misconstruing his words.
The president has repeatedly claimed no wrongdoing on his part and has routinely slammed the inquiry, dubbing it the “Ukraine witch hunt.” The White House has also stated that it will not cooperate with the probe, calling it “highly partisan and unconstitutional.”
