An adviser to President Trump said he expects both the president and his wife to recover quickly after they tested positive for COVID-19 on Thursday evening.
During a conversation with Fox News Sunday moderator Chris Wallace, Fox News host Sandra Smith read a statement from Dr. Scott Atlas on the president’s positive diagnosis, which he said presented “zero reason to panic.”
“He expects the president and the first lady to make a ‘complete, full, and rapid recovery’ after the two tested positive,” Smith said. “He says that there is ‘zero reason to panic.’ … He said, ‘This is very difficult to avoid,’ talking about the virus itself. And then said, ‘It is no surprise that people get the infection, even with precautions. I anticipate a complete and full and rapid recovery back to normal after his necessary confinement period.'”
Atlas added that he anticipates Trump to be back on the campaign trail sooner rather than later and that the president “is a very, very healthy guy,” saying that “the overwhelming majority of people, even at his age, do fine with this.”
A number of Trump’s closest allies, including senior counselor Hope Hicks and Republican National Committee Chairwoman Ronna McDaniel, tested positive for the virus. Others, including House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, said they have been tested and are awaiting results.
Markets fell globally on Friday following the announcement of Trump’s positive test.
