Trump blasts ‘lightweight’ Arkansas governor over transgender surgery bill veto: ‘That’s the end of him’

Former President Donald Trump excoriated Arkansas Gov. Asa Hutchinson over his veto of a bill banning transgender procedures and drugs from being administered to minors.

“Asa Hutchinson, the lightweight RINO Governor of Arkansas, just vetoed a Bill that banned the CHEMICAL CASTRATION OF CHILDREN,” Trump said in a press release on Thursday. “’Bye-bye Asa,’ that’s the end of him! Fortunately for the Great State of Arkansas, Sarah Huckabee Sanders will do a fantastic job as your next Governor!”

Hutchinson vetoed legislation this week that would have banned procedures from being performed on transgender minors and argued that the bill was “over-broad, extreme” and referred to it as “vast government overreach.”

The Republican governor’s veto was overridden by Arkansas lawmakers, and he has faced intense criticism from conservatives, which intensified after he appeared on Tucker Carlson’s Fox News program in an attempt to explain his rationale.

Trump endorsed Sarah Sanders, his former press secretary, in her run for governor of Arkansas, which she announced earlier this year.

“Sarah is strong on Borders, tough on Crime, and fully supports the Second Amendment and our great law enforcement officers,” Trump said in a January statement. “She loves our Military and Veterans — and her home state of Arkansas. Sarah will be a GREAT Governor, and she has my Complete and Total Endorsement!”
