Local artist Marian Gliese displays her relationship with nature in “Flowers and Birds,” an exhibit of oil paintings that will run from June 2 through June 27 at Artists? Gallery in Columbia.

The new show expands upon the theme of her last show at the gallery, titled “Flowers.”
The gallery is located at 10227 Wincopin Circle in Columbia. Hours are 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday and 9:30 a.m. to noon on Saturday.

Furniture functions as art
The Meredith Gallery is currently showing “Fur-nature: Art Furniture Inspired by Nature,” featuring Maryland artist Len Dougherty, through June 28. Dougherty worked as a cabinet- maker as an early adult, and received his formal art training at MICA and Towson University. He began building furniture according to his own designs about 16 years ago.
“I create distinctly inspirational furniture that is functional in daily life,” the artist said in a statement. “I build using traditional joinery with an emphasis on clean lines and clear finishes, which allow the warmth and beauty of the wood to show through.”
The gallery is located at 805 N. Charles St. in Baltimore. Gallery hours are 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Tuesday through Friday, and 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday.
