No. 16 Georgetown looks for revenge against Penn State
Georgetown players could pick any one of a half-dozen games this weekend — besides their own — to follow in the hopes that a fortuitous result could change the Hoyas’ slim NCAA tournament hopes.
The 16th ranked Hoyas (7-6, 3-3 Eastern Collegiate Athletic Conference) also know they need to finish strong against the very team that upset them in last year’s regular-season finale, ultimately denying them a place in the postseason for the first time in 11 years.
“I would like to think they know it’s a moot point if we don’t do well against Penn State,” said Hoyas head coach Dave Urick on his team’s chances. “It’s an opportunity for us to end the season with a couple wins in a row, and hopefully things fall our way, and we get a shot.”
Led by brothers Rob Forster (22 goals, 8 assists) and Jack Forster (22 goals, 12 assists), the Nittany Lions (8-5, 3-3) have won five in a row, and all but one of their losses were by just a single goal.
Georgetown’s stretch run has been marked by improved work in the cage from goalkeeper Jack Davis — “It seems like the last couple of games, he’s taken his game to another level, and I think that bodes well for him and for us defensively,” said Urick — and consecutive hat tricks by Scott Kocis, who missed a game-tying chance in the final seconds against Loyola on Apr. 11.
“I know I could’ve finished that shot against Loyola,” Kocis told student newspaper, The Hoya, last weekend. “So that’s been motivation to come out here and make every shot count.”
