President Obama’s much anticipated State of the Union address took place Tuesday night on Capitol Hill and in front of the nation. His main themes of the evening were middle class economics, foreign policy and fighting terrorism. As expected, many congressional Democrats praised his speech while members of the GOP largely dismissed his ideas.
Freshman Sen. Joni Ernst, R-Iowa, gave the official Republican response to the State of the Union address. In her response, Ernst promised the new GOP majority would make Congress function again. She said their top priority is the approval of the Keystone XL pipeline.
After his speech on Tuesday, Obama traveled around the country to expand on the themes of his address. His first stop was in Idaho, then it was off to Kansas.
